7QTs - Summer Daze

Summer mugginess, hotness, stuffness

---1---

Summer is in full swing here. E skipped town with the class pet from kindergarten and made a leash out of pipe cleaner and has been dragging Fidget around despite my pleas that it might hurt his neck. I am pretty sure she misses all her friends because when we pray, she prays for them and she gets really mad when she cannot remember everyone from her class.

---2---

Workbook season is in full swing. E loves her workbook and always has to check them out when we go to Sams. I did take out the answer keys in the back of hers because she's a sneaky one. R is not nearly as 'into' her workbook and I have to set aside a few pages for her to do otherwise she won't do them. There is some sort of completion prize at the end - Legos, marker set something... but only if they are done to my liking.

I have found that cutting the top corners of the pages I 'approve' helps keep things moving so they don't focus on the monster number of pages.

---3---

Tough life at the pool.

The girls had swim lessons and swim team (not M on the latter) for the past two weeks. Somehow they got the teacher giving them a popsicle after the lesson and I told her she was starting something - I don't know if she believed me. : )

Wet hair means braids around here. M got (quite possibly) her first braid ever last week. Its hard to believe that last year the big girls had braids 3 times the length of the ones they have now

I took the girls to their swim practice one night and got caught up in a conversation. They said they were tired of the pool once it was over and they played so they headed to the little playground. R braved one bar of the monkey bars and then they got involved in a 4 square game with some (a little) older kids who were very patient with them since they have no idea how to play

E is swimming (and swam last night) with the 6 and unders aka not with the coaches walking the kids down the lane. So I made good on getting her a 'racing' bathing suit - that was the motivation prize. The team one was $55? And hardly anyone has it so we found one with the team colors for $15 and she thinks she something else. She 'tried it out' at the practice before the meet - just to be sure it fit - and she definitely walked a little taller that day. Now the pink goggles remain on the counter for when (and if) she gets a first place in an event.

The 'racing' suit and goggles offer/prize/motivator is in effect for R too and I think if she wanted to, she could swim 6 and under this year if she put her mind to it - but the ball is in her court the goggles are on her head.

The TV has been on the classical music stations more often than not to accommodate the random ballet recitals that occur.

E announced she wanted to do ballet in the fall and we told her that would mean no soccer, which she was okay with. Then we brought up that it was much more expensive than soccer so we'd have to 'see about it' (hello $50/month!). She told us that we could take money out of her piggy bank to pay for it which kind of made me want to cry because it was that important to her.

But the jury remains out because she returned to the soccer side of things this week so I have no idea what she really wants to do and how we'd swing dance if she really wanted to do it.

---5---

M dotes on A. It is so cute. She begs to hold him at some of the most inopportune times so when we can take a moment and make it happen she always wants me to take a pic : )

---6---

M's stocking... I had a good little stitching session the other night and I hope to have some more. I am tired of doing this one I want to hurry up and finish but that does not seem like it will happen anytime soon.

7QTs - Icy Days and Other Happenings

Now that I just wasted 140 minutes on the phone with obamacare.gov about my 1095-A tax form and NO, I cannot get someone from Blue Cross on the phone to conference in because it is 9:45 at night! Anyways, anyways... Here's what's been happening...

--- 1 ---

E has been begging to go to swim lessons so I finally got my act together and signed them up...

They are private lessons because the cost was nearly the same and I got to pick the dates. Which has been good and bad because we've only had two of the four lessons so maybe group lessons will be in order.

---2---

M has gotten in on the ballet performance action...

They are so cute!

And they practice all their moves and put on quite a show!

---3---

Hmmm... What else. E has been bugging me to help her with this:

Teaching a child to cross stitch - when they don't understand reading the pattern - is not for the faint of heart. She gets the making the Xs but actually reading the pattern to determine where the Xs go is a totally other story. She is bound and determined though!

Oh and then it snowed and mainly iced the Friday before last. Which was a bummer because if it had been snow then it would have been loads of fun but then it was more like... oh the lights are flickering... I think we will fill up the bath tub because the well pump won't work. Oh, Lee don't you want to start a fire in case the power goes out and then you won't have to start it in the middle of the night (that'd be a no). So I hunkered down with my candle on the table and hoped for the best (but then ours didn't go out - but a number of people's power did so we were fortunate).

I was trying so hard to avoid going outside because it was mostly gross and ice plus for every minute they are outside it probably took at least 3 minutes of prep work to get them dressed to go out. BUT I gave in...

No sledding like last year so making do with the circumstances

We have the best-est neighbors ever!

Pretty snow!

---5---

Enough with all the girls...

This boy... I kinda really like him. Though I am nearly convinced he has some sort of colic or something because I think he digested only half of what he consumes.

---6---

We could resist taking pics with little brother!

Mom, what is going on?

She's totally flopped me over!

Yeah, I'm at least half her size and a seventh her age!

---7---

Let's see its Catholic School Week and I've got a post cooking for that.

I need to post about last week and I also want to post about our trip to Charleston so...  I have high hopes that there will be at least another post this week.

7QTs - Family Pics, Pool Time, and Frogs in the Street

More of the same busyness and craziness (on repeat until end of July)...

--- 1 ---

The family pic is now officially old...

I think I might have mentioned about a month ago that our new bishop was coming to town - which he did and obviously we were there. He kind of tied up all of Lee's time for a few days but I can totally forgive him because he was one of the kindest, most approachable, down to earth people ever - let alone a bishop.

The girls actually behaved and sang for most of Liturgy - E and R that is. M was doing her normal wandering and sitting as close to the iconostasis as possible. Mostly not a distraction as it is either her sitting RIGHT up front or she is SCREAMING in the back with me  - so take your pick folks. Anyway the bishop was totally unphased by M's need to be super close - though he did take special care not to dip any candle wax on her when he was doing the blessings with the dikrije and trikrije.

To give you an idea...

Taken from here...

So anyhow, we were bummed to not get a pic inside the church but we kind of had to clear out of the church and then the bishop had to bless the food in the hall and then it started raining so no pics in vestments but overall I think our eparchy/diocese is VERY blessed to have him as our bishop.

--- 2 ---

On to more family pics...

Only this one is definitely the most recent : ) from Lee's family reunion last weekend.

Goodness there was so MUCH FOOD there and it was all amazing. If you have never had Southern country cooking before you are missing out... big time.

Oh and there is another family reunion on say October 10 that new bebe might keep me from but I hope someone bring me a leftovers plate home!

--- 3 ---
I've been walking quite a bit this pregnancy - to the tune of 2-3 times a week. At least 2 miles a day and apparently that is not curbing any unnecessary weight gain as I'm tracking right like I was with R's pregnancy - which I find SUPER annoying.

I've been walking through a rain shower... (which was awesome)

And making nice with the amphibians that take over the road after dark...

--- 4 ---

M has taken to getting into the big girls things and toting them around like they are hers...

She's got a while until the 3rd birthday ballerina bag is given but she needed to try it on for size : )

--- 5 ---

Our children sleep in the STRANGEST places...

I could compile 20 different pictures just of them sleeping but I'll spare you!

--- 6 ---

R and M had a quiet afternoon outside as E was stuck inside for punishment...

Among other behavior issues... she WROTE ON THE WALL (fortunately in washable marker) but seriously, seriously... you are FIVE. YOU DON"T FREAKING WRITE ON THE WALLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

K thanks...

However last week I was kind of in a funk because Lee is working insane hours, the girls were not being fantastic and a bunch of other stuff that I need not complain about BUT it dawned on me:

How can I expect/ask the kids to have good behavior and nice attitude if I'm setting the example of being a crabby-patty.

Oh the hypocrite I am. I have really been thinking about how my thoughts, actions and words are effecting them this week and everyone has had an exponentially better week!

--- 7 ---

We have been to the pool not once, not twice but thrice this week... Two times for swim practice and one just because we had an afternoon to kill. Taking dinner there is so easy and I should do it more plus there is ZERO kitchen clean up when we get home which is heavenly...

R wanted to wear her swim cap last night and I looked at here and thought "You are 3 and you are going to freak out when I try and pull this rubber cap over your head." But she didn't and she thought she was one of the big kids...

E has been sporting her cap ever since she laid hands on it. She is desperate to being on the racing swim team (and not just the one that swims before the racing part of the meet starts). I think she might do it with a few more weeks and maybe an extra lesson or two...

So we've almost made if through another week.

Papa's got a wild and crazy day today and I'll be talking to St. Joseph a lot today for Lee and all the other guys out there helping him.

A Very Frozen 3rd Birthday

Here's a peak at how we celebrated R's 3rd birthday

M didn't feel great so this is how I found her when we walked in from swim class!

I think the cake turned out great! I found only later that R really did not like her cake - maybe it was the raspberry filing?

As for the other food, we had pulled pork, a tray of Chick-Fil-A nuggets (which I thought was going to be too much but then there were 6 left!), slaw, pretzels, carrots, grapes and popcorn. I was bound and determined not to run out of food.

Hues of the cake!

R working on her Frozen puzzle

Chicken nuggets  = happy kids

R was so excited over "big boxes" and wanted to move on once she has just unwrapped the boxes but we convinced her to open the box first : )

Frozen dress up! E was OBSESSED with trying on the Elsa dress which I would not let her do until after cake and until after R got the first chance

3 is such a fun age for unwrapping presents

Best card reaction EVER

R freaked out when she saw Olaf on the card!

And had to run and show her Olaf the card

Olaf nearly took a nose dive into the cake

R was alittle bashful when we sang to her

But she perked up to blow out the candle

Stop everything and take a family pic!

Giving the Elsa costume a whirl! Which was good because E has lived in it ever since!

The girls making Grammy proud practicing ballet - she's given them each a ballerina outfit and bag for their third birthdays and they've been having afternoon practice sessions ever since. Looks like ballet might be in our future : )
