WWRW - Volume 9

Team Captain

Still reading the same book from last time...

but since it is 1500+ pages I guess that's okay

MOI

Ehhhh… I have picked up the Brain Child book once. Not really in a good reading mood. Probably because I don't really know what I want to read next. Have you read the article about the family who had 12 kids how they paid for college? If you haven't go check it out and tell me what you think. I think there are some legitimate points to be taken away from it but it seems quite rigid. My favorite thing to take away from it is the building/rebuilding of a car. I know just about zilch about cars so I think it would be AWESOME for our kids to learn about cars by rebuilding them. Uncle Kev - are you game for overseeing this : )

E

The March edition of High Five came in the mail the other day so High Five has been atop of E's reading requests.

R
She totally looks like she could be reading… right?

R has seemed a bit interested in the High Five Archive binder that I have made but seriously the girl cannot sit through a fourth of the magazine. Which is funny to me because I remember E sitting and intently listening to High Fives when she was close to 2. There's probably a lot more going on around R so I'm not horribly surprised she won't sit still.

M

Maybe I'll start reading her Buenas Noches Luna before bed… I'll check in next week and let you know if that's actually happened : )

Got any other suggestions? I could totally get into this link up because I REALLY SHOULD READ MORE!!!!

WWRW - Volume 8

Team Captain

Yet another NT Wright...

He finished this book in 2 sittings...

This just came in the UPS truck today...

MOI

Since M wowed us all and has been getting into the groove of sleeping in the evenings I decided to pick up a book out of the EXTENSIVE library in the 5th bedroom (otherwise known as Papa's office).

If you simply read the title of this book and blow it off because of the title you are judging a book by its name - and in this case you are missing out. The book is totally focused on the 'Paradoxes of the Sexual Revolution' and the information is presented in a clear, well-documented, nonjudgmental way. I am not done with it but definitely a good book to kick off the year with.

E

Cute book. I don't think E really gets the point of the story and it is a bit long so there cannot be a whole bunch of noise and activity otherwise she is very distracted.

R

Okay so this pic is just slightly old… maybe by about two months BUT it is related. Fortunately R has not been such a book-wrecker since she and E got more than a handful of books for Christmas. They got some Clifford and Curious George books among others. But the Clifford and George books are not the Clifford and George books that we read growing up. They are more like hybrid books. Example… the Clifford I am used to goes something like this… I am Emily Elizabeth and this is my dog Clifford.

It is just weird opening up up a book with an expectation of reading one thing and then you get something a bit different.

Anyways, E and R totally are in love with the George books so that's what's important and that's what we are reading : )

WWRW - Volume 7

Team Captain

Yet another NT Wright... and a little book on ethics to mix things up.

Since it is the winter I imagine Papa is averaging 4-6 books a week. I promise a tour of his library soon

MOI

I have not been reading a book lately... Oppps. but I have been reading a number of blogs. Next year our family is bound to have a Jesse Tree for Advent. On a completely different subject I found these blog posts particularly interesting especially given the fact I can count in the double digits how many woman I know who are pregnant. The posts are worth a read - whether you agree with them or not, not that I agree wholeheartedly with them either - some legitimate points are raised about the challenges of motherhood and good tips for overcoming the challenges...

Why Most Families Have 2 Children.

Most interesting line - "I've never met a woman who wished they didn't have so many {kids}."

Desperate Housewives–No Laughing Matter: Why Young Mothers Don’t Need God, They Need Help

Thing I should remember - "A gentle word is much more likely to turn away wrath.  A hug works wonders as well. "

E

This has been E's book of choice. It is a quicky so sometimes I wish she'd pick out Green Eggs and Ham or something but whatever...

R

This book is just silly and R calls in 'Boom Boom' and only stays to read about half of it... which really annoys me because she drags it around and shouts "Reeead at, Reeead at!" - and I do mean shouts. Then we sit down to read and we don't make it past skinned-knee D!!!

WWRW - Volume 6

I have been reading a lot of posts about Advent recently and what people and their families do for Advent. Reading happens to be on a number of people's lists. I am a bit behind in that department so I'll post some books I hope to read for Advent next year...

For Adults

St. Nicholas may or may not be bringing this book for Papa on Thursday. And Papa may or may not already know this because St. Nicholas got it through Amazon and Papa gets all the shipment/order info... Whoops!

Anyway The Winter Pascha is written by the same author who wrote the Lenten Spring. Papa really enjoyed that book so I am thinking this one will be a hit!

I have also noticed that many families have a Jesse Tree at their house for Advent... I am feeling way left out so we'll have to get on the Jesse Tree train for next Advent. Looks like this book is a good place to start.

I don't know very much about Jesse Trees and as I have mentioned before I am one of the least crafty people you'll meet so there better be some super crafty instructions to follow

For Kids

And there are 100 million books for kids that explain Christmas and the true importance of Christmas - not the lights and the presents and all that jazz. I read about this one and it looks like a keeper...

Any other kids books we should add to the biblioteca (library : )

WWRW - Volume 5

I promise he really does do other things other than read...

Team Captain

Another NT Wright... This is Volume 3... A mere 740 pages - because he 'has to read this one' so he can read the newly released The Resurrection of the Son of God Volume 4, which is 1600 pages. He's a rockstar... I know.

MOI

Probably should more accurately title my portion what I'm NOT reading Wednesday... But E annotated it for me during her rest the other day - side note - she takes a rest in her 'nap nook' in our room because E and R cannot nap in the same room - that would just be a bad idea. Sooooo... anywho... her big girl crayons AND markers were taken away for a week...

And you thought all the art from earlier today was E's best....

E

I may or may not have mentioned that E LOVES her High Fives... Some get loved more than others. I have been trying to figure out a way to bind them so we can go back and read some of our favoritos... My favorite story - just for the record here - is The Shapes have a Picnic and my favorite poem - just because I know you are dying to know - is Fifteen Furry Foxes.

So I finally got my self together and M and I ventured to the Depot of Offices for binding supplies. All was well until we got home and I realized that my 1 inch binders were only going to hold 3 months worth of High Fives - instead of my highly anticipated 12... AND I let E have a go with the binder for her rest and she dropped it before she made it back to the room and BAM... the 1 yr warranty on the binding will be put to the test because now the center ring won't close...

Papa got us some insane locking ring binders at the Target so we'll see how long they last...

R

Who does not love Elmo en español? There's a few others she's 'into' at the moment but this one is at her crib side...

What We're Reading Wednesday - Volume 4

Team Captain

NT Wright is one of his newly-ish found favorite authors who at times must be taken with a grain of salt but otherwise is generally quite theologically sound.

MOI

I made a good dent in the book one evening this week.... Continues to be interesting about how to connect with your child to help them through various situations.

E

Oh more homework brought on another search for books to illustrate the homework assignment theme - Scarecrows. I think its important for E to learn/see about what she will be creating not me just saying 'Okay a scarecrow lives in a cornfield and has to scare crows away from the corn'. We got some good ideas in mind to complete the scarecrow assignment - hay, corn, buttons, a combine, a silo... oh and some black birds. E is hoping for blackbird stickers - which I wonder if I'll be able to find at Don Miguel's.

In terms of the books themselves.... Scaredycrow was cute and had a nice ending. The Little Scarecrow Boy was a bit over her head I think BUT better illustrated what exactly scarecrows do.

R

Who does not love The Foot Book??? Especially when in the taped up version with the back page missing... Good thing Mama has memorized it : )

What We're Reading Wednesday - Volume 3

Team Captain

I have no idea... 100% sure it is Church related. He is out of his normal library and reading room... I'll give you a tour of his library one of this days. You wives who complain about your husband's book buying habits (Kate? Martha?) compare and trade notes and be unified in the INSANE amount of books our husbands have that we will probably never read.

MOI

Still reading - kinda. I have been on a cross stitching kick

E

We ventured to the local beach bookstore - yep we're at the beach - with Grammy and E picked out Chicka-Chicka Boom Boom from the used section and this sweet Penguin book new. The Penguin book is written by an NC author which is pretty neat. When we got home I skimmed the Chicka book and discovered a missing page - E does not know... Hopefully we can convince her to exchange it.

Side note, E and Grammy have a library date since we have been to the Mount library hmmm... twice. Well really only once because one time was for passport application so that totally does not count. Why don't we go to the library? I really like going outside in the afternoons with the girls. If I was a SAHM I  imagine we would be hitting up the library on a weekly basis for books and storytime and just something educational to get out of the house. Now I just want to be outside. Maybe we'll go some in the winter... With a preschooler, toddler and newborn. Ha! Who am I kidding : )

R

I got R this book because she has semi-mastered the word Cheerios and she's way into food so this book is totally up her alley.
