E has already started talking about how new baby will need a pair of Crocs... but will Mama and Papa be forced from DOUBLE stroller-dom to a triple stroller? I have been mulling over a triple stroller for awhile. There are options...
My favorite is the RunAbout
My concern with any triple stroller is will it fit in the van and will we use it enough to justify the expense. Well the jury is out... and probably will be for a while. I know that new baby will be in the Beco for a few months so we can continue our walks with the double stroller + Beco.
Anyone with small kids have any thoughts? Is the triple worth it? How much longer will the 3 yr old - soon-ish to be 4 yr old ride in a stroller?
I vote DO IT but at the same time, I totally don't see myself doing it when the time comes. The side-by-side triples don't fit in doors and even the others just seem so huge and cumbersome. If anything, I'd keep an eye out for something second hand for the times when you are doing something that justifies E needing a ride versus walking herself (like an all day festival? I don't know). Or if you go for long walks/jogs that could be enough justification. I think if (once new baby is out of the carrier) you start small with short walks that you know E can do by herself, then gradually make them longer, that could help keep it to a double stroller!
ReplyDeleteYeah... I am definitely leaning in the no direction. I definitely don't jog with them. In fact we keep the single jogger at my parents house. One of the only times I see a triple coming in handy is a zoo trip or something where you would have the option to put a kid or stuff in the third seat. I don't know. I would get a triple stroller or jogger off Craigslist if it was not an arm and a leg and was in decent shape! That way if I never used it I would not feel like I wasted a ton of money. I did get our double new from Zulily and it was an-arm-and-a-leggish in price BUT we have put some good miles on it and I would definitely buy it again if I had to.
DeleteI would skip the triple - all 4 of my kids are still stroller-sized, and a triple would have been a waste of money. My 4-year-old mostly wants to walk, and if he gets tired he sits on the front of the double. Then I usually have one of the twins and the 2yo in the stroller and wear the other twin on my back. Sometimes I put both twins in the stroller and the big kids walk. Or both twins sit in the stroller and BOTH big kids ride on the front (it's a Valco tri-mode so there's room). You can wear a baby in a carrier for years, so I'd just consider upgrading to a double jogger with room on the front for sitting toddlers!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you on the wearing baby point. However with the last one R REFUSED to go in the Beco after about 6-7 months. Even in the back she would arch her back and flail around like a crazy person. Do you have one of the hiking backpacks for the big kids?
DeleteWhen my twins were born, my son was almost 3. We skipped the triple and stuck with a double. He felt like a big kid getting to walk alongside. If his legs get tired, I let him ride with one of the girls and I wear the other girl (on my back, now that they are bigger). I second the double jogger plus carrier idea.
ReplyDeleteWe have a hiking backpack, and it's cumbersome and heavy for everyday stuff. We do use it for hiking and longish walks, but it's just so darn heavy and bulky.
I don't know if I could convince my hubby to wear a hiking backpack... He's NEVER worn baby in a Beco or anything
DeleteOh! We have a sit and stand and love it, ours is called the Joovy caboose. It is no bigger than a double stroller, but it has a little stand in the back where the third kid can stand when he gets tired of walking. I think technically, the one in the back is supposed to sit or stand, but I have used it plenty with three kids fitting.
ReplyDeleteA friend of mine whose three are all about the same age as ours (or soon to be 3) has a Joovy and really likes it. It seems pretty manageable in terms of maneuvering... Now if I can just find one on Craigslist...
DeleteI don't have any brand recommendations, but, get what you want--I mean really want now while your children are young. There are a couple of things, a great stroller being one, that I wish we would have invested in when we were at the beginning of our child bearing years. Now it's harder to justify later when we may be nearing the end.

I sprung big time on the double... and I would buy it again... I do like the City Mini double though too. I don't know if I would LOVE LOVE a triple because they are so enormous. I might love love love a used one and then justify the expense that way!
