You talk about swim class all week.
You say you are going to be brave.
You harass me all morning about leaving on time.
But then you are in the water for all of 2 minutes and sit and cry until I cannot bribe you back into the pool so we leave half through.
Morning a total bust. I feel like I totally wasted my time and I'm way annoyed.
Let's see if you have a repeat performance next week. Hopefully sitting in your room will force you into reconsidering your behavior.
I really recommend the book Whole Brain Child. It's a quick and practical read. It really helps explain why kids are so irrational. The short story is that their brains are really just not developed yet, so they can't think about things the way adults can. The brain doesn't fully develop until around age 25. That doesn't mean we don't talk to kids about good ways to treat other people, keep them from hurting others, etc. but I think it can really help with your child's behavior is frustrating you.ReplyDelete
Thanks! I'll have to check it out. I was just talking to a mom yesterday about how her girls are not transitioning back to preschool well this year and she cannot put her finger on what is getting them upset or causing the stress.Delete
