Rainy with a Chance of Bubbles and Chalk

This past week/month/summer has been very wet. Seriously it feels like we are in Seattle! Afternoons outside have been hit or miss. I know the girls love being outside and I prefer being outside - even in the 90% humidity - just because I have been inside all day!

Well yesterday was no exception. I loaded the girls up in the stroller to get my exercise in and not more than 200 yards from the house the clouds opened up, R started screaming, E informed me it was raining so we raced back home. Racing is not particularly easy with a loaded down double stroller at 24 weeks pregnant! It was a mere 4:15 so what to do, what to do? Head inside and inevitably watch Elmo? No, no. Entirely too early to play that card. So E grabbed the bubbles and chalk from the garage and we did the next best thing to being outside in the rain. I sat in my rocking chair and the girls played under the porch and did not get wet. Earlier this week they did not even need chalk or bubbles, they just entertained themselves!

After about 20 minutes the rain stopped and we did get to go on a shorter walk and burn off some of the energy. When R's meltdown/sugar-low was in sight we headed inside. Elmo may or may not have been turned on so I could get the kitchen organized and table set in relative peace. Though R toddled in ever so often announcing "Nak, Nak, Nak" and fortunately a few pieces of watermelon tided her over until dinner.

Seriously though, grateful to not be in a drought but as I am watching the news there is rain on the 7 day forecast EVERY SINGLE DAY! I need some new/creative rain friendly inside or outside activities! We have had tea parties, dress up, built robots, colored (this is the usual winter indoor activities when it is too cold to go out).

What do you do with your little one(s) if it is raining?

  2. We finally had our first day without rain in 20 days today here in OHIO... We have had a LOT of dance parties and we have been going to the library at least once a week just to get out of the house. Also with my husband being the HS Biology teacher we have been having science days were we dissect stuff and do experiments. The kids love it!!!
